Daniel Quinn seems to surprise me why would anyone write a novel about a gorilla that can telepathically communicate with humans to teach them philosophical ideas. This was a part of Quinn’s novel that made no sense to why not just have a human? But, today when I was walking back from class I say these people wearing shirts that where all environmentally friendly and my mind automatically stereotyped the group of people. Yes I know call me a bad person, but what I learned from that made me think did Quinn not use a human because he wanted to avoid stereotypical stereotypes. I mean think about it what if Ishmael was a human that lived in the jungle. What would you think? The basic description of the teacher would have us thinking in many different directions. The use of the gorilla as the teacher was cleaver it prevents the reader from drawing to a stereotype and actually listening to what Ishmael has to say.
