Schedule Changes and Updates

4/25/12: Hello, everyone. Based on your majority consensus, Friday's class (4/27) will consist of open office hours for anyone who wants to talk through specific aspects of some of the readings as you prepare for the exam. So, this is a reminder that I'll be holding office hours in BH 474 from 3:30-5:30. If I don't see you then, good luck next week and study well in preparation for the exam.

4/16/12: Hello, everyone. Looking ahead to next week, I would like to propose this change to our schedule:
  • Monday's class (4/23): Please read any 5 pages of Burke's "Equipment for Living" and bring it to class as a lens for discussing the film. This means we are discussing the article one class period earlier than originally indicated on the syllabus.
  • Wednesday's class (4/25): We will begin our exam preparation and semester review on this date.

4/6/12: Hello, everyone. This is just an advanced reminder that on Friday (4/13) there is no class. As indicated on our syllabus, that is time for you to write and/or revise the second Critical Analysis. Also, I have extended the deadline until Saturday, 5:00 p.m. I know that is only 24 hours, but hopefully it will make a difference for you. As before, please upload your paper to your Oncourse Dropbox.

3/30/12: Hello, everyone. I am excerpting Monday's article by Campbell ("Agency: Promiscuous and Protean"), so we will only be reading pp. 3, 8-14.

3/19/12: Hello, everyone. Here are some reminders about our schedule for this week:
  • Wednesday's class (3/21) is on the blog. Please check the "Reading & Discussion Questions" page for instructions and a prompt. Class will not be held in GY 436 (although you are perfectly welcome to use the room)!
  • Friday (3/23) there is no class. As indicated on our syllabus, that is time for you to write and/or revise the first Critical Analysis paper. Also, I have extended the deadline until Saturday, 5:00 p.m. I know that is only 24 hours, but hopefully it will make a difference for you. Please upload your paper to your Oncourse Dropbox.
Finally, I made a terrible error of omission today, because I forgot to announce that Ryan had a birthday last week, while we were all on spring break. Happy belated birthday, Ryan!

3/9/12: Dear Class -- I am making the first schedule change to our reading schedule following the spring break. Please note that on 3/19/12, we will reread Schirato and Webb's "Visual Narratives" alongside Satrapi's Persepolis. We will not be reading McCloud's "Vocabulary of Comics" (although, you are more than welcome to read it on your own, as it is quite interesting). Also, please make it a regular habit to start checking the blog for reading questions and updates. Our first Critical Analysis paper will be due soon after the break, and I want to talk more about it and take your questions about it after the break.

3/5/12: There may be 1 or 2 schedule changes this mini-semester, and I have been known to drop 1 or 2 readings from our list over the course of any semester. If that happens, I will announce it here.
