Our Nig's Goal

After reading the novel and inspecting the title page in our edition of the book, I have come to the conclusion that one of Harriet E. Wilson's goals or aims in writing the story was to give agency to a specific group of people.  Some may consider this group of people she was attempting to provide a voice to as all of the black race, while some on the other hand may consider this group to be members of African decent who are or have been enslaved.  These are both obvious conclusions when considering to whom Harriet E. Wilson was giving agency.  I believe, however, that the group she is attempting to give power is not necessarily black people in general, but maybe people of all minorities.  Yes, while the specific aim of this book seems to be to enlighten the reader on the struggles of enslaved blacks at this time period, I believe her exigence may be seen differently today.  The story and the struggles of Frado represents not only the struggles of all blacks, mulattos or otherwise, but can timelessly represent the struggles of minorities in more recent times, or even of the same time period.
