Uplift & Forward motion in “Our Nig”

In Our Nig we see the oppression of African Americans in the North where salves where theorized to be free. Thou in this story Frado who is an African America child who is a slave living in the North. The author portrays the cruel nature in which Frado is treated by her Masters wife and is occasional beaten. We see that Frado does not have a voice in this novel her thoughts and personality is not given a voice. We see that she finds this voice and receives Uplift from a different person, James. James gives Frado uplift and he serves as her voice giving her an opportunity to be treated equal and her personality comes to life. James also serves as an uplift to the African American society he resembles justice, equal opportunity and an opportunity for a better life. James shows how African Americans should be treated with compassion, caring, and friendship. James resembles Forward motion in this novel, he empowers Frado to be who she wants to be and do what she wants to do.
