Audience Construction/Agency in Our Nig

After reading “Our Nig” and hearing Maya and Kar Joon's presentation on Audience Construction,  I believe anyone who reads “Our Nig” will be "constructed" in some way. When I was reading "Our Nig" I started to feel sad and angry for Frado, as most people do. Being that Wilson includes so much detail in her book, it helps the reader connect with her on an emotional level. What I came to realize was Wilson’s main goal was not to make you feel bad for her, but to pass on her story and make it known. As we read and heard in class her main goal was for people to buy her book, she also achieved the control of the reader’s reaction. Wilson has great use of words and arranges them in a way to get the control of the reader reaction. Regardless of the time the piece was written, even if the author and reader are in different centuries, reactions are still processed after reading the book. This shows that Wilson constructed the book in a way for the reader to feel the way she wanted it to be portrayed. Wilson cannot have any methods to know the contents of our discussion. The author never receives every readers reaction; therefore, we can discuss whatever it is that we would like. We can discuss the story because we receive similar impression about the story. We are in the same frame of the genre, and the frame is formed by the author.
